Keeping your vehicle running at its best is usually the result of a lot of research and good practices. Some things like knowing the differences between synthetic oils and conventional oils can be confusing but should be included in the research you do. We here at Missouri Synthetics can help you get to know some of the most important differences between the two types of oils so you can make the best decision for your vehicle.

How they’re made

Both oils are pulled from the ground, but synthetic oils are put through a process that refines, distills and purifies them. Conventional oils end up containing more contaminants than synthetic oils. The process synthetic oils go through and the additives they contain allow them to protect your engine better and allow for better vehicle performance.

Extreme weather

Extreme heat and sub-zero temperatures will definitely have an effect on your motor oil. The viscosity of conventional oils will be affected by these weather conditions causing the oil to flow less efficiently or thicken up. The low-volatility of synthetic oils allows them to continue flowing well without losing their viscosity, putting less pressure on your engine. Synthetic oils also evaporate at a lower rate reducing your vehicle’s oil consumption.

Economic choices

Conventional oils are a more affordable option when choosing the type of oil to put in your vehicle. Even though synthetic oils can have a higher price, they could be easier on your budget in the long run. Apart from straining your engine less and leaving behind less engine deposits, your vehicle will require oil changes and filter changes less often. Synthetic oils have also been known to aid in improving fuel economy in most vehicles which can help save you money at the pump. In the long run, synthetic oils may benefit not only your wallet, but also the environment.
